A More Permanent Home for "The Spread"
Monthly streaming programs, recaps, and (super sexy) bonus content
What is “The Spread”?
A monthly streaming newsletter—previously only available as a circulating spreadsheet.
Time to set down roots…
Embarrassingly, I did go to (and even graduated from!) film school. In 2020, I finally made use of it, channeling all of my pandemic angst into a dedicated monthly newsletter of film programs to help friends wade through the endless sea of film and television content. Since then, I’ve distributed the monthly spreadsheet to a modest (but vocal) audience, providing 120+ programs via a super sophisticated Google Sheet (where streaming information is catalogued and updated). It seemed like time to set up a proper home base for my writing.
What can I expect from these streaming programs?
I truly love movies: anything that starts soon and looks good. Highbrow, lowbrow, and everything in between. If it’s on theme and/or otherwise relevant to the program, it goes in. Themes have varied from genre (Film Noir, Erotic Thrillers, Romantic Comedies, Melodrama, etc.) to actor showcases (such as Paul Newman, Maggie Cheung, Udo Kier, Barbara Stanwyck, Takeshi Kitano, Pam Grier…), to themes (“Be Gay, Do Crimes,” “Flop Musicals,” “Video Nasties,” “Porno Chic,” to name a few). As far as film selections, you’ll find everything from All About Eve (1950) to Maniac Cop (1988) to (A) Zed and Two Noughts (1985). Television counts.
So what’s all this then?
I’m looking to transition a significant portion of my previously curated programs over here, but in the meantime this will be a space for musings on movies and launchpad for my writing. Currently, free subscriptions give you access to everything, but I certainly don’t mind paid support! Subscribe so you don’t miss any of the action.
